What it costs in Holly Springs
A standard 100A to 200A upgrade runs $1,500 to $3,500 including permit and inspection. What moves it:
- Meter base relocation. If the meter has to move, cost rises noticeably.
- Service run length. Homes set well back from the road cost more.
- 400A service. Homes planning EV charging, a heat pump, solar, and battery together sometimes go to 400A. That is a bigger job.
- Panel location. A panel in a finished space needs more care and sometimes drywall repair.
The cheaper alternative worth asking about
If your goal is adding an EV charger and the only obstacle is capacity, a load management device may solve it for a fraction of the price. These prevent the charger from drawing at full output when other high-draw appliances are running, keeping total demand within what your existing service can handle.
It does not suit every home, and it is not a substitute for replacing genuinely unsafe equipment. But for a Holly Springs house with 200-amp service and no free slots, it is often the more sensible answer than a full upgrade. An electrician who never mentions the option is one worth questioning.
